I know that there are a lot of underpaid freelancing graphics designers out there looking for work but I am worried that utilizing the services of one of them will force me out of the creative process for my site. Does anyone have any success or horror stories to share? What kinds of questions do you typically ask of potential artists?

Well, I never really need advanced graphic design on my website to the point that I have to hire a pros. I would rather do it myself.

hi
I am glad to see other voices jumped in to reply to this post and saved me the time to state the already stated. So, I'll take this opportunity to I suggest a Tip of the Day to Manta. Think before you speak. As a graphic design and communications professional, I advise my clients on doing just that. With the advent of social media, it is far too easy to make a statement that you can't take back. The only thing that is worse than a bad logo, is a tarnished brand impression.

Manta hurt it's credibility by making that post - telling it's audience that it believes quality and professionalism can be discounted. If you expect people to follow your lead of professional advice - and services - you should consider the impact of your statements. I now have to take your future posts with a grain of salt. And when that comes from a customer, that is salt in the wound of any brand.
