Thinking about the truth that there are through 4 billion publicly accessible web sites on the World-wide-web, getting noticeable when a probable client performs a search on Google or Yahoo is essential. If your website does not show up in first couple of pages of outcomes, there is a really slim likelihood that the probable client will be equipped to track down your internet site.

When starting off on the Seo journey, do not count on fast benefits. Website’s situation on the search engine is like cheese – as it will get greater with time! When world wide web was in its infancy, there was no will need to optimize the web page for the search engines to see it. Back again then a robot (a.k.a. lookup spider) was ready to traverse all of the internet sites on the Net in few hours. Today, the size of web sites present on the world wide web is measured in petabytes(PB) (following stage up from terabytes) and it will take search engines at least 72 hours to go as a result of and index the pages.

Search engine marketing is all about setting up important elements for the site to develop into research engine friendly. It will start with every single page on the web site obtaining meaningful title and description. It also requires having investigated a listing of key phrases and picked the ones that pertain to the site’s content. Following that it is a matter of submissions to the lookup engine queues and creating hyperlink exchanges.

When contemplating selecting another person to carry out Search engine optimization for your site make positive to spend the time and exploration the organization. Right here are a few concerns to question:

one. Does the firm have prior experience with Seo?

2. What is their website’s position on Google and Yahoo? If they are unable to optimize their site what are the chances they’ll do well with yours?

3. What is their strategy for your web site? While most Seo companies will not go into detail on how they would perform Search engine optimisation, they really should be in a position to explain WHAT they have planned for your website.

4. Will the Search engine optimization Organization use automated program and blast-submit your site to the research engines or do it manually? Though more rapidly and less costly, blast-distributing a web site is not with no repercussions. To title a several:

—A. Your site may get submitted to adult content research engines.

—B. Your website might not be admitted to be detailed as some lookup engines take into account blast-submission a kind of spam and both clear away these entries from their directories or block them from becoming entered via CAPTCHA (problem-reaction examination utilized in computing to ascertain regardless of whether the individual is human) in the very first spot.This is also great for local seo services.

—Do. Your site could get submitted to a “hyperlink-farm”.

5. The minimal quantity of time required to make any difference in Search Engine situation is about three months. In most cases, it is much more most likely to consider about 6-eight months due to getting older algorithm applied by most Lookup Engines! If the business “guarantees” the top rated lookup engine placement question the following concerns:

—A. Are they planning to use fork out-per-click on or pay-per-key phrase as the technique of getting your site to the top rated? Although each methods are great, they are really high-priced and short-term solutions to stable Web optimization practice.

—B. Is the person you hired took place to be Larry Web page, founder of Google? Because anybody else won’t be ready to make such an assure.

Inexperienced Web optimization person can cause additional injury than positive aspects to the site’s placement. You, as an internet site operator, would in the end have to deal with the lookup engines, if your site gets in the poor community.

Calculate distances in PHP

I used this on an accommodation website not to long ago. this snippet allows you to measure the distance from one point to another. Great combo with Google maps too!

function distance($lat1, $lon1, $lat2, $lon2, $unit) {

$dist = sin(deg2rad($lat1)) * sin(deg2rad($lat2)) + cos(deg2rad($lat1)) * cos(deg2rad($lat2)) * cos(deg2rad($theta));
$dist = acos($dist);
$dist = rad2deg($dist);
$miles = $dist * 60 * 1.1515;
$unit = strtoupper($unit);

if ($unit == "K") {
} else if ($unit == "N") {
return ($miles * 0.8684);
} else {
return $miles;
}
}

Force file download

This allows you to force file downloads such as mp3 and other files being played in browsers.

function downloadFile($file){
}

Get latitude and longitude from an address

This is a great snippet and goes well with the first one i mentioned. This allows you grab the latitude and longitude from the Google map url and returning the values as an array!

function getLatLong($address){
}

Get how many times a page have been retweeted using PHP

This snippet will return the number of tweets that a page was tweeted. Using the tweetmeme API

function tweetCount($url) {

Last week we did a post on Google panda “Has your site been Google Panda slapped?”. This week I want to share with you some ideas and practice that you can apply to your website to help improve and beat the panda! Google has released Panda update 2.2, just as Matt Cutts said they would! This really is updates to Google’s algorithm. In short removing and filtering through the crap!

We get asked daily on what steps we should look at to improve the drop in SERPS and to help improve on building a better quality website but also its rank.

Firstly as SEO’s we all try and target good unique content. This is purely not enough. If you think 100 different categories or topics with unique content written by some Indian company and shoved on your front page is going to get you rankings in SERPS! Well, then you wrong! Panda is not only about uniqueness but also quality. Google is looking for pages that users find not only interesting but what users want to share with others.

The content has to be so good that visitors end up pitching a tent on your site and forced to pay rent. Panda is designed to say this is content that someone wrote for SEO purposes just to have good unique content on the page, not content that makes everyone who sees it want to share it and say wow. Right? There are a number of factors that play in on this algorithm such as Time on site, bounce rate, CTR from SERPS and so on.

These are factors that you as a SEO or web strategist need to look into. What are the pages that have the highest bounce rate and so on? Is the site user friendly and wanting the user to find out more. If Google establishes one bad page, it will end up bring down all the good pages. You see guys, the days of stuffed pages and keywords to manipulate the market are slowly moving out. Google wants addictive pages, so that when u land there u need rehab to close it down (lol)

If you indeed have being panda slapped, then you need to start operation clean up! I know this is frustrating and very tough. I do believe too that Goolge is making adjustment to panda daily but this is good practice to start cleaning your website from bad habits!

Remember this “Google knows all!”

My conclusion to this is, rather have 100 fantastic pages than 1000 crap pages. Also create pages and design so that users will want to share it.

Have you seen this error in Google page speed? Leverage browser caching!! Here’s the fix Browser caching of external resources can increase loading time of a web page and decrease server load. In this article i will explain how to enable mod_expires and to improve page speed as page speed is now 1 of Google’s many SEO factors. Browser caching should be used for static resources such as pictures, css and js files etc. Googles overview of this is simple: Setting an expiry date or a maximum age in the HTTP headers for static resources instructs the browser to load previously downloaded resources from local disk rather than over the network. Enabling cache expiration can be done with the Apache module mod_expires, either with an entry in .htaccess or the server’s httpd.conf.
Googles overview of this is simple:

Setting an expiry date or a maximum age in the HTTP headers for static resources instructs the browser to load previously downloaded resources from local disk rather than over the network.

Enabling cache expiration can be done with the Apache module mod_expires, either with an entry in .htaccess or the server’s httpd.conf. Cache times need to be entered in seconds:

ExpiresActive On

Then refresh the page and test again!

For those of you on shared hosting and free hosting, you will need to contact your hosting provider to do this for you! I’ve tested this will all major CMS scripts (Joomla, wordpress, Drupal) and all is fine!

So you’ve probably heard about the Google Panda and it’s serious panda slap. For those of you who haven’t, here is a small insight to the panda. As of 22th Feb 2011, a major update by Google on how it ranks sites was introduced! Statistics show that 12% of search results have being affected and halved many sites’ visitor numbers. Are you one of those victims? Some points why you could be a victim: (points summed up form wordtracker.com) • Conduct qualitative research (that’s speaking with individuals and not a big questionnaire) to find out which of a sample of sites they considered to be low quality and why. • Use the results to define low quality sites with the factors that Google can measure. This gives Google a mathematical definition of low quality. If we start here, we can think of a number of factors that Google might be able to measure to define low quality, including: • A high % of duplicate content. This might apply to a page, a site or both. If it’s a site measure then that might contribute to each page’s evaluation. • A low amount of original content on a page or site....

Some points why you could be a victim: (points summed up form wordtracker.com)

• Conduct qualitative research (that’s speaking with individuals and not a big questionnaire) to find out which of a sample of sites they considered to be low quality and why.

• Use the results to define low quality sites with the factors that Google can measure. This gives Google a mathematical definition of low quality.

If we start here, we can think of a number of factors that Google might be able to measure to define low quality, including:

• A high % of duplicate content. This might apply to a page, a site or both. If it’s a site measure then that might contribute to each page’s evaluation.

• A low amount of original content on a page or site.
• A high % (or number) of pages with a low amount of original content.
• A high amount of inappropriate (they don’t match the search queries a page does well for) adverts, especially high on the page.
• Page content (and page title tag) not matching the search queries a page does well for.
• Unnatural language on a page including heavy-handed on-page SEO (‘over-optimization’ to use a common oxymoron). Eg unnatural overuse of a word on a page.
• High bounce rate on page or site.
• Low visit times on page or site.
• Low % of users returning to a site.
• Low clickthrough % from Google’s results pages (for page or site).
• High % of boilerplate content (the same on every page).
• Low or no quality inbound links to a page or site (by count or %).
• Low or no mentions or links to a page or site in social media and from other sites.

So here is some advise to the panda slap!

Track the links to your site as well and request the low-quality sites to take down their links. It’s a matter of negative association, and it’s not worth the backlink!

In the same vein as #1, focus your attention on cultivating backlinks from very high-quality and reputable sites in your niche, and register with directories with well-chosen keywords.

Continue with your content creation. Do you have a blog? It’s surprising how many small businesses don’t have a blog attached to their websites or store fronts. Blogs are one of the best ways to keep your site fresh and continually updated with new content.

Social Media marketing: learn it, live it, love it! Social Media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others are where your audience is now. People would rather connect with a friend online and build relationships with new people than be sold on a product. Share value!

Share us your ideas and sites that have being effected by the panda slap!
